Two Hot Holidays

Saint Lucia

Yesterday we took a look at the Ice Hotel in Quebec, Canada so today I thought I would jump all the way to the other end of the spectrum. Frankly not everyone wants to spend their winter holiday in a giant snow fort so why not take a look at one of the most beautiful places on the planet – Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucia is located in the Caribbean so that is a plus right there. A friend of mine went to St Lucia for his honeymoon and stay at the Anse Chastanet Resort. He was basically ready to pack up everything and move there after two weeks in the sun. The island was basically created for honeymooners. I mean really, palm trees, white sand beaches, and fresh Caribbean Sea air… how could St. Lucia be anything but paradise.

Maybe the Caribbean isn't your style? Why not try checking out Saint Paul's Bay. May not be know for it's sandy beaches, but the Beaches Saint Paul's Bay does have are amazing. A few of its most famous include Mellieha Bay and Golden Bay. The harbors are lined with quaint shops and places to grab a bite to eat.

If you need a place to stay in Saint Paul's Bay, I would suggest checking out The New Dolmen Hotel. This hotel is definition of vacation, there are restaurants on site, an amazing spa, and you can't forget the Malta beaches.

If you are looking for something a little more budget friendly the Crown Hotel in Saint Paul's Bay is perfect for you. This hotel is affordable and you get what everyone really wants when they are on vacation: a complimentary breakfast buffet! How could you go wrong? The rooms are not the biggest in the world, but the view from your balcony is amazing.
If/when I ever get/got married traveling to either Saint Lucia or Saint Paul's Bay for my honeymoon would be on my top 10 things to do… right underneath helping save the planet.

Good segue huh?

The First World Hotel

It is a new year everyone! And this year is going to be big, so big in fact that I'm going to start with a giant hotel. Or should I say, THE biggest hotel in the world. Are you on the edge of your seats yet?

fwh3.jpg
The First World Hotel in Genting, Malaysia, is now the largest hotel in the world after receiving the recognition from Guinness World Records.

So what makes The First World Hotel, the biggest? Well it could be 6,118 rooms, or it could be 500,000 sq feet of indoor theme park, shopping center in the adjoined to the First World Plaza. Or it could be the fact that it has the sweetest paint job of any hotel ever. Okay, that last one wasn't the best reason, but really, I would stay at this hotel just so I could take pictures of it!x

Boarding Your Plane...of the Future!

You know how much everyone loves the struggle that is boarding an airplane? The shuffling! The pushing! The babies crying!? Well we all could be kissing it all goodbye! You heard me right, several major airlines are working to develop more efficient ways to board an aircraft, using computer simulations to come up with mathematically formulas. And here I thought that I didn't need to use math after highschool. Oh well.

Apparently, getting everyone to board the plane faster is not just to keep everyone taking a trip happy. As David Swierenga, a former Air Transport Association of America economist explains "An airplane only generates revenue when it is in the air."

UK is a No Fly Zone for Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg

London - It was reported a few days ago that American rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested and then subsequently banned from London's Heathrow airport when Snoop Dogg and members of his entourage caused a ruckus in the duty free shop after being denied access to the first-class lounge. The fight was said to have resulted in several officers leaving with minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.

Although he was let out on bail and was scheduled to meet with London police, it has been report that Snoop Dogg is no longer welcome in the United Kingdom. There are special circumstances where offenders do have the chance to be admitted to the UK however because of this recent brawl and his previous criminal record in the US this does not apply to Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg will likely loose millions of dollars in performance and appearance fees.

At first glance I thought banning Snoop Dogg from the UK was a bit harsh. But apparently Snoop Dogg has around 30 guys in his entourage - that is a mini riot in an airport! I'm just surprised that a celebrity is actually being punished for their actions for once. It really gets to me when a celebrity can weasel out of something because they are who they are. Good on the British official for standing up the super showbiz machine. Maybe next time Snoop and friends will think twice about their actions.

Hotels of the Future

Taken seemingly out of a sci-fi movie comes a little story about the future of travel, and more importantly the future of human entertainment.

With the aid of $500 million, a Cold Warrocket and a little bit of love, Las Vegas hotel mogul Robert Bigelow and Bigelow Aerospace have created their first Space Hotel prototype.

This could possibly be the coolest idea ever. If you thought the view from your hotel room was sweet, just wait until you have the option to wake up to the whole planet!

Genesis I is currently carrying pictures of Bigelow staff, and insects to test the design's suitability for humans.

The craft is padded with layers of Kevlar - the material that makes-up bulletproof vests - to protect it from flying space debris. Sleep tight and don't let the space bugs bite.

Travel Restrictions

Due to recent events I thought it would be a good idea to bring to your attention flight and airline restrictions put in place since allegations of a terror plot targeting airliners flying between the UK and USA have surfaced.

If you are traveling from the Untied States to Great Britain or vise versa, make sure you are aware of all these rules and restrictions so your business trip or vacation is not disrupted.

  • Travelers boarding commercial flights at a U.S. airport will not be allowed to carry "any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions" onto airliners.
  • Passengers on flights from Great Britain are prohibited from carrying electronics on board. There are no such restrictions on people traveling on domestic flights or from the U.S. to Great Britain.
  • Beverages purchased beyond security checkpoints must be consumed before boarding --- they will not be permitted aboard the aircraft.
  • TSA screeners will recheck every bag at boarding gates for banned items, preventing passengers from carrying items purchased in boarding areas.
  • Gate-side inspections are taking place for all passengers on flights to Great Britain. On other flights, the TSA is conducting random gate-side inspections.
  • Federal security directors --- the top TSA officials at airports --- have discretion on how to implement the new policy. They can also use any resource available to conduct the inspections, meaning they can use their own screeners, state and local law enforcement personnel or airline personnel.

There are a lot of security checks folks have to go through just to get on a plane nowadays. That’s a hassle especially for anyone who travels a lot. Sure you could just get used to it, or you could take advantage of some great marketing to make your trip easier.

Flying Luxury Hotel

Could we be looking at the future of the hotel business? I found this one floating -wink wink - around on the Popular Science website. What you are looking at is no blimp. It is the 400-ton luxury Aeroscraft.

Igor Pasterna of Worldwide Aeros Corporation came up with this behemoth of an idea. It is a huge luxury hotel in the sky, almost like a cruise ship except with no limitations like needing "water" to "float". The Aeroscraft can land not only on solid ground, but in snow and on water as well. To minimize noise, the aft-mounted propellers will be electric, powered by a renewable source such as hydrogen fuel cells. The prototype is set to be complete in 2010 and already has interest from some cruise lines.

I would LOVE to take a trip on one of these suckers! Imagine having a nice dinner with the family in one of the Aeroscraft's restaurants while looking out the window and watching North America getting smaller and smaller. What a rush.
